What is the history of the State of Quintana Roo?

The State of Quintana Roo was part of the province of Yucatán. During the Caste War, which took place between 1847 and 1901, the Mayans rebelled against the Mexican government and established an independent state in the Quintana Roo region.

After the Caste War, the region once again became part of the State of Yucatán. In 1902, the Federal Territory of Quintana Roo was created, which was the first step towards the establishment of the state.
