What is the history of Tulum?
The history of Tulum, formerly known as “Zama,” which means “dawn” in Maya, dates back to pre-Columbian times. It is estimated that the archaeological site of Tulum was built between the 13th and 15th centuries by the Maya culture.
During its heyday, it was an important commercial and political center in the region, controlling maritime trade along the Caribbean coast.
