Just 10 km (6.2 miles) away is Bécal, famous for being the land of jipi and japa hats, where you can visit traditional artisan caves where these fine hats are still handmade.

One of the main attractions of Calkiní (in Yucatec Maya: Throat of the Sun) is the Monument to the Lordship of Ah Canul, also known as “The Maya Arch”, inaugurated on September 25, 2000, at the exit of Calkiní heading towards Dzitbalché.
Calkiní possesses a rich cultural and artistic heritage, which is why it is also known as “The Athens of the Royal Road”.
The Royal Road is a route that was drawn to connect the two main settlements of the General Captaincy of Yucatán, Mérida and San Francisco de Campeche, starting from the conquest of Yucatán in the 16th century.
